Published in 2024, "The Colors of Hong Kong" is one of the bilingual books (in Tagalog and Chinese) in a 12-book box set of the Room To Read Hong Kong Chapter.

 

As the illustrator of the book, I aim to visually capture the emotional journey of Tala as she struggles to adjust to her new home in Hong Kong. Using color and composition, I wish to engage young readers in the ambivalence Tala experiences—excitement at reuniting with her parents, yet sadness leaving her hometown behind.

 

If you have experienced the struggles of settling into the hustles and bustles of a metropolis, I hope you find joy in a home away from home like Tala does—through a friend. I feel proud to contribute my illustrations to this meaningful project that helps migrant children in Hong Kong learn their heritage language while also developing Chinese language skills.
